Associate Director Market Access

The Associate Director of Market Access will work with the Market Access team to implement targeted contracts and pull through programs with payers.  Position will also manage field reimbursement managers and to develop strategies to reduce market access barriers, including prior authorizations and other barriers. This position will ensure brands achieve planned gross margin targets by achieving 3rd party formulary coverage goals & ensuring patients have access to USL medications via their pharmacy benefit.

Essential Functions

Work with USL VP and Market Access team to identify targets that are critical to achieving formulary access and coverage goals.  Partner with Market Access team to ensure they implement business plans contracting strategies that align with financial targets. Responsible for routing and gaining legal and business approval for contracts. Partner with Finance to ensure rebate invoices and payments are consistent with contract terms and conditions. Utilize customer hubs to enter product level rebate terms according to customer deadlines. Monitor performance of key account plans and recommend actions to improve results. Provide leadership with monthly updates regarding progress toward coverage updates. Develop formulary kit and other marketing support materials to support the national account team. Utilize Fingertip formulary and other resources to identify targets and monitor progress toward objectives. Partner with Sales Training and Managers to provide direction and messaging to improve prior authorization submission and approval rates. Recommend patient access business rules that would optimize financial results. Partner with sales training to develop messages related to patient access program; gain DPRT approval Partner with Product Marketing to integrate patient access materials with other sales and promotional materials.


Bachelor’s degree in Business, Science, Communications, related field or equivalent and a minimum of 8+ year’s pharmaceutical experience ideally within a sales function. Must have 5+ years in a market access account management or related experience as a market access consultant or relevant experience with a PBM or other payer.  Headquarter account management experience that includes:  negotiating rebate agreements & developing pull through programs. Travel up to 20%.   


Neurology experience. Strong working knowledge and experience with patient access programs (eg. copay reductions) and strong understanding of patient access issues like Formulary Restrictions, Coverage Tiers, Prior Authorizations and Step Edits.
